My story at the Faculty of Economics and Business, KU Leuven

"When I was in the last year of my bachelor’s study in English and German, I decided to study business for my master. However, without a business background it was rather difficult to find a suitable master’s programme. Fortunately, I discovered KU Leuven’s MIBEM programme which offers the opportunity to study international business, economics and management to students without a business background. There is also a preparatory programme to help students gain basic knowledge in the field. This was exactly what I was looking for. In addition, KU Leuven is one of the top universities in Europe (48th in the World University Ranking, 2019). Without hesitation I applied and entered the preparatory programme in 2018."

"My experiences in Brussels exceeded my expectations. The study programme lives up to the university’s high ranking. It is well-designed and provides an excellent combination of theoretical and applied knowledge. Professors help students understand difficult notions with clear explanations and interesting examples. They are also patient in answering students’ questions. Tutorial and exercise sessions help students with challenging topics. FEB also organises guest lectures where speakers with deep knowledge and rich experience in a particular field can inspire students and expand their knowledge and visions."

"Students in the MIBEM programme are from different countries and from various fields of study, such as engineering, chemistry, and foreign languages. Due to their different backgrounds students contribute many different insights to class discussions and group work."

"FEB does an excellent job at helping students build their careers. Career Corner offers sessions about work regulations in Belgium, on how to write a CV and prepare for an interview etc. Students can also contact Career Corner for private coaching. Through cooperation with various companies it also announces internship and job vacancies."

"Brussels is the heart of Europe and the headquarters of the EU. Living here allows me to better understand Europe, which is beneficial for my future career in international business. The city also offers cultural opportunities, such as various museums. I have visited museums in the EU district to get to know the history and culture of Europe better. I found it interesting to learn that Europe is named after Europa, the mother of King Minos of Crete from Greek mythology. The thousands of art pieces in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium are amazing as well. The city of Brussels combines modernity and history, humans and nature with diverse cultures. It has marvellous historic buildings like the ones at the Grand Place, modern landmark buildings such as the Atomium and beautiful landscapes. It also has numerous beautiful parks - there are four in the area where I live and one of my favourite ways to relax is to take a walk in a park and feed the ducks."

"Erasmus Student Organisation offers various activities for international students such as trips to other cities, language cafés to learn new languages and other workshops. It is a great way to get acquainted with each other and have fun together. Life in Brussels is never boring. I enjoy studying here very much thanks to the perfect programme and the wonderful city. Completing my master’s study in KU Leuven will help me to build my career in international business between Europe and China, which I look forward to."
