MSc in Economics

Ask Satya

My story at the Faculty of Economics and Business, KU Leuven

“I grew up in New Delhi, India and always knew that I wanted to venture abroad for my Master’s degree. My prerequisites for a suitable school were well ranked: international and with a flexible study programme. I decided to apply for the Master in Economics programme at KU Leuven, intrigued by the well-balanced selection of electives. The fact that this university is one of the best and oldest in Europe was the cherry on the cake!”

“KU Leuven exceeded my expectations from day one. The Faculty of Economics and Business left no stone unturned to make us feel welcome. Various orientation events, such as barbeques, parties and the good old cycling trips, led to new friendships and some great memories. The international atmosphere helped me connect with many people from different countries, and places like Pangaea proved to be the perfect melting pot of cultures and the ultimate (free) coffee fix. The administrative staff were extremely supportive and helped international students navigate different organisational procedures. I never felt lost and always was fully informed.“

“My master’s programme was a very rewarding experience – and a lot of work from day one.  The diverse range of electives and the support from my professors imparted immense learning. The faculty is at the forefront of economic research in Europe and has distinguished professors that one can learn a lot from. The community of professors and students really came together during the pandemic to continue learning online, and I am grateful to the faculty for making sure that this transition was as seamless as possible.”

“The town of Leuven is always bustling with activity and there will always be someone to point you to the nearest bar. Strangers can turn into familiar faces, and familiar faces into friends. I love how this town represents so many different things: academic grit, nightlong partying and a united love for ‘broodjes’!”

“I am glad that I chose to study in Leuven and decided to stay here during the pandemic. The directions I once googled have now become muscle memory, first ‘hellos’ gradually transformed into ‘see you soons’ as the year ended, and friends turned into family. Through the ambassador programme, I am eager to give back to the student community that gave me such an enriching experience.”
