Requesting an exemption...

There are two major categories of exemptions: exemptions based on PAQ (Previously Acquired Qualification) and exemptions based on PAC (Previously Acquired Competence). The exemption in case of PAQ is requested on the basis of previous succesfully taken courses or programmes, in case of PAC the exemption is requested based on experiences outside the education system.

...based on Previously Acquired Qualifications

Have you already obtained credits in higher education and do you suspect that the learning outcomes correspond with the learning outcomes of the programme for which you are enrolled? Then you can request exemptions for those courses.

Procedure

  • Based on the ECTS course descriptions, you compare the learning outcomes of the courses for which you want to apply for exemptions with the learning outcomes of the courses for which you have obtained a credit certificate.
  • Contact your study career consultant to know for which courses you qualify.
  • To request the exemptions, you open your ISP in KU Loket. In addition to each course, a number of icons are provided, one of which serves to request an exemption.

  • Fill in the requested information as truthfully as possible and save the file. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • Requests for exemptions are processed during October (first semester) and February (second semester).
  • Requesting exemptions is possible as long as your ISP is available (until the third Wednesday of the first and second semester). You do not have to wait for approval of your exemption requests to submit your ISP - please make sure that your ISP is submitted before the deadline, even if your exemption requests have not been processed yet.

Special exemption requests

Did you obtain a credit in another programme for a course that is part of your current curriculum? You can request an exemption in KU Loket.

Attention! This is only possible if the followed course and the course you are requesting an exemption for have exactly the same code in KU Loket.

  • Open your ISP and go to the course for which you want to request an exemption.
  • Click on the icon next to the course. A form will appear.

  • All data is filled in automatically. You only have to submit your request.

...based on a Previously Acquired Competence

Have you obtained certain skills by, for example, self-study or work experience, but you do not have a qualification for this handed out by an institution? You can still qualify for an exemption.
